New Invasive Hornet In Georgia

Hello beekeepers!

Please see the PDFs below from our Cherokee County UGA Extension Agent, Josh Fuder, regarding a new invasive pest that arrived in Georgia earlier this month. It is called the yellow legged hornet and can be a voracious feeder on honeybees. As of now, they are only aware of this species of hornet near the Savannah, Georgia port and there is a plan being made to eradicate this insect, if possible, or manage it’s spread at the very least. Please see the attached PDF’s to review the additional information as well as a comparison of native insects that might be mistaken for the new yellow legged hornet. Please report any sightings of this invasive species according to the information provided in the PDF’s. Thank you!
